The two certificate traineeship courses, developed by the HRIA in conjunction with NMIT (Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE), are for people wanting to start work, and already working, in the $4billion per year (and growing) hire and rental industry.
The courses offer an entry-level course and extended training course that covers everything trainees will need to know to start work and further their education in the hire and rental industry.
The courses include training in many different areas, which reflects the diversity of work within the hire and rental industry. Both courses are made up of compulsory and elective units.
The Hire and Rental Industry has been growing steadily for 20 years. Increasingly people are keen to rent tools and equipment and look to the hire and rental industry for support. This service industry needs people who know the right tool for the job and who can advise and train people to operate tools and equipment. There is a large demand for qualified people who know the safety issues and can provide high quality service.
The hire and rental industry is growing rapidly throughout Australia and currently has a turn over of $4 billion per year and employs over 15,000 people.
Employers in the industry are very supportive of the course and are keen to get people qualified and working in Hire and Rental for the long term.
For more information about enrolling employees, contact the Hire and Rental Industry Association.
On the job training is well defined in hire, with safety compliance ticketing/certification/licensing common to ensure competency compliance with OH&S regulations for plant and machinery operation in the field and in hire yards.
Attaining certificates of competency is on a job-by-job basis and will be pertinent to individual roles and businesses within the hire and rental industry.
These certificates or “tickets” are nationally recognised and will therefore travel anywhere, including from job to job.
For example: employees in a hire business focusing on the access industry may need to attain certificates of competency in scaffold erection or safe operation of an elevating work platform; whereas employees in an events oriented hire business may need to attain certificates of competency in marquee or structure erection (rigging) or weighting guides compliant with governmental building codes. Tickets for driving heavy rigid vehicles or mini loaders or many other, numerous types of vehicles are all examples of the various types of portable and nationally recognised training certificates achievable within the hire industry.
